On 5 September 2015, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Vanouver joined the other 4 ASEAN Consulates-General, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam in hosting the first ASEAN Festival in Vancouver. Activities at this event included sell of food and products from the 5 ASEAN countries, performance of traditional dances and music, demonstration of fashion show for traditional costumes, as well as featuring of video presentation on tourism, cuisine, trade and commercial opportunities in ASEAN member countries. All activities were highly appreciated by more than 1,500 Canadians and foreign residents who participated in the event.
Among the participants were Honorable Amrik Virk, Minister of Technology, Innovation and Citizens’ Services and Mr. Adam Palmer, Chief Constable of the Vancouver Police Department. The two guests of honour also delivered congratulatory speeches after the opening speech by Mr. Neil F. Ferrer, Consul-General of the Philippines and the current Chairman of ASEAN Consuls-General in Vancouver.
On this occasion, Ms. Sutthiluck Sa-ngarmangkang, Consul-General of Thailand in Vancouver, informed the event’s participants of the upcoming Thai fundraising gala dinner to be held under the theme, “Helping Children to Paint Their Dreams,” at Fairmont Waterfront Hotel on 19 September 2015. The Consul-General also invited interested audience to attend the gala dinner and take part in the education development assistance for children at Baan Mae Ramoeng School in Tak Province. This charity event was part of the grand celebration on the auspicious occasion of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 5th Cycle Birthday Anniversary 2 April 2015 that the Royal Thai Consul-General in Vancouver and the Thai community in Western Canada had jointly organized throughout the year 2015.
