The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Vancouver, led by Mrs. Sutthiluck Sa-ngarmangkang, Consul-General of Thailand to Vancouver, co-organized the annual event
“Of Rice and Roots” to showcase Thai culture, culinary, tourism, and Thai imported products on Tuesday 3 February 2017 at AMS Student NEST, University of British Columbia.
“Of Rice and Roots 2017” aims to promote food, culture and tourism of Southeast Asian countries among students, personnel of UBC and the general public. It was jointly organized by UBC Institute of Asian Research, UBC Centre of Southeast Asia Research, Consulates-General of ASEAN member countries in Vancouver, and UBC Southeast Asian Students Associations, namely Vietnamese Students Society (Vietnam), Thai Aiyara Club (Thailand), Singapore Students Association (Singapore), Filipino Students Association (Philippines), Seri Malaysia Club (Malaysia), and Gado-Gado Indonesian Students Association (Indonesia).
During the event, the Royal Thai Consulate-General organized the display of Thai handicrafts, brochures on Thai tourism as well as the sampling of imported food products and authentic Thai desserts while the student associations of ASEAN member countries organized food stalls to sell their numerous national cuisines. More than 200 professors and students took part in this joyous cultural event.
