On 15 November 2019, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Vancouver, the Consulates-General of ASEAN member countries in Vancouver comprising of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam, the Centre for Southeast Asia Research (CSAR) of University of British Columbia (UBC) as well as the UBC’s student associations of countries in Southeast Asia jointly organized “A Taste of SEA” at UBC. This cultural event aimed to promote food, culture, tourism, as well as people-to-people contact with Southeast Asia. It was attended by more than 150 faculty members and students of UBC.
During the opening ceremony, Consuls-General of ASEAN member countries together with the representative of the CSAR and the representative of students associations jointly pour various kinds of rice, which are widely consumed in the Southeast Asian region, reflecting the cordial ties and shared heritage of the region. Other activities organized during this event including music performances, exhibits on regional handicrafts and products, food stalls, as well as the distribution of information on tourism in Southeast Asia.
