Ms. Sutthiluck Sa-ngarmangkang, Consul-General of Thailand to Vancouver, opened a seminar on “Thailand-Canada : Game Industry Partnership” in Vancouver on 2 March 2017 to promote cooperation and joint ventures in game industry between Thailand and Western Canada as part of Digital Thailand and Thailand 4.0 policies. The seminar was organized by Thai Trade Centre in Vancouver with collaboration of numerous offices from both Thailand and Western Canada namely the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Vancouver, the Board of Investment of Thailand (New York Office), the Software Industry Promotion Agency (SIPA), the Department of International Trade Promotion, and the Ministry of International Trade of British Columbia.
The seminar was attended by more than 40 people comprising CEOs and leading experts in game industry, interested media and representatives of related agencies from both Thailand and British Columbia. After the seminar, there was also a business matching session when developers and publishers of Thai and Canadian game companies exchanged information, created network, and looked for potential business partners.
Prior to the seminar, the Thai delegates visited the Ministry of International Trade of British Columbia in Vancouver to learn about a brief overview of booming game industry in British Columbia. On this occasion, they also visited the Electronic Arts (EA), which was the biggest game company in Canada, and the Centre for Digital Media (CDM), which was the first professional graduate program in digital media to be offered in Canada. CDM was set up by the collaboration of 4 leading universities namely University of British Columbia (UBC), Simon Fraser University (SFU), Emily Carr University of Art and Design, and British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT).
