On 27 January 2017, Royal Thai Consulate-General in Vancouver organized Thailand Corner at Prince George Public Library in British Columbia. To officially open the Thailand Corner, Ms. Sutthiluck Sa-ngarmangkang, Consul-General of Thailand to Vancouver, gave welcoming remarks and jointly cut the ribbon with Ms. Tamara Davidson (representative of MP Todd Doherty), Minister Shirley Bond (Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour), Minister Mike Morris (Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General), Mr. Lyn Hall (Mayor of Prince George), Elder Kenora Stewart (representative of Chief Dominic Frederick of Lheidli T’enneh First Nation), Ms. Carolynne Burkholder-James (Board Chair of Prince George Public Library), Ms. Janet Marren (Chief Librarian), and Dr. Dan Ryan (Acting President/Interim Vice President, Academic & Provost of University of Northern British Columbia). This was followed by the books presentation ceremony from the Consul-General to Ms. Carolynne Burkholder-James, who represented Prince George Public Library.
Among more than 60 participants to this event were important Canadian politicians at both federal, state and local levels from Prince George, community leaders, local businessmen, students, and the public. Everybody expressed deep appreciation for the donation of books by the Consulate-General and the many interesting activities organized.
Activities during the Thailand Corner comprised the following 1) the display of books on various aspects of Thailand such as Thai novel, Thai boxing or Muay Thai, Thai cuisine, Thai architecture, and children tales about Thailand 2) the display of Thai products and handicrafts 3) the exhibit on Thai tourism 4) the demonstration video on Thai dessert 5) the tasting session for Thai food 6) the Thai traditional performance 7) the demonstration of Thai fruit and vegetable carving and 8) the Q&A session about Thailand.
