The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Vancouver, led by Mr. Nontawat Chandrtri, Consul-General of Thailand to Vancouver, co-organized the ASEAN Noodle Festival on 27 November 2019 at Community College, Downtown Campus.
The event was jointly organized for the first time by Consulates-General of ASEAN member countries in Vancouver, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand to promote food of Southeast Asian countries focusing on “noodle” which is one of the main staples in the region and can be cooked in various and diverse recipes. In this event, students from VCC’s Culinary Arts Department prepared different national dishes that is to say Soto Ayam (Indonesia) Mee Rebus (Malaysia) Pancit Palabok (The Philippines) Pho (Vietnam) and Pad Thai (Thailand). Moreover, Consulates-General also prepared desserts for sampling. The Royal Thai Consulate-General provided Khanom Piak Pun (Pandan Coconut Sweet Pudding) and Khanom Sod Sai (Steamed Flour with Coconut Filling), both were highly appreciated by the attendees.
Mr. Ajay Patel, President of VCC, praised the initiative that helps integrating cultures to the community. The event was attended by more than 50 representatives from public and private sectors as well as friends of ASEAN member countries and personnel and students of VCC. On this occasion, Consul-General also receives the Certificate of Appreciation from Ms. Teresa Wat, MLA of Richmond North Centre, for Consulate’s roles in contributing to the diverse community of Vancouver.
